Q - |
How much do stained glass panels cost? |
|
A - |
The cost of an Adnilco stained glass panel is determined
by its size and the intricacy of the design. To determine a
"ball-park" price range, use the
Guess-timator on our Pricing Information page. |
|
Q - |
OK,
so now I know the price range for the size I want, but how do I determine the
"intricacy"? |
|
A - |
Many
factors contribute to a panel's intricacy criteria; the amount of detail,
number and type of glass cuts, glass type, wire work, etching, and bevels, just to name a few. As a standard, the Adnilco
Logo
Crane panel, displayed on our Home Page, can be thought of as a
"high-end" piece. An example of a piece leaning toward the lower price
range, would be a simple geometric design as seen by clicking
here. |
|
Q - |
I
know what size I want, and have sort of an idea of what I want, but I'm not
sure if it's do-able. |
|
A - |
Talk
to us. Nearly any design is possible. You are only limited to your own imagination. The Artist, Linda, has re-created pets, sailboats, wildlife, still life, geometric patterns, and just about every other request she's received for the past 20+ years. |
|
Q - |
I
know what size I want and know exactly what I want. How do I relate it to Adnilco? |
|
A - |
Again, talk
to us. Either by email, or phone - If you can
verbalize a description, put a description into a text document, sketch something up, take a photo, find something similar or, just send us a picture
from a magazine, Adnilco will have enough to begin the Proposal
Stage. |
|
Q - |
What
is the Proposal Stage? |
|
A
- |
Your initial
input to the Artist, only provides her with the size and a general
description. During the Proposal Stage, communication with both parties
fine-tunes the details. For example, is the piece intended to create privacy
where opaque glass would be more suitable? Is the prismatic effect of bevels
desirable? Is the intended location for the piece feasible? Are the glass
colors intended to match or compliment existing decor? At the conclusion of
the Proposal Stage, a final price will be quoted. |
|
Q - |
What
if I change my mind after receiving the final quote? |
|
A - |
That
is your prerogative. You are under no financial obligation until after you've agreed to the commission. |
|
Q - |
If I
decide to move forward after receiving the final quote, what's the next step? |
|
A - |
The
Design Stage follows. In the Design Stage, if the location is local (within
about 50 miles of Philadelphia, PA) the artist will make arrangements to
personally measure the opening which is to receive the piece. If the location
is distant, Adnilco will require the customer to verify that the
dimensions are correct. The artist will then create
a full
scale sketch, based
on previous communications with the customer. The sketch is then mailed to the
customer to check the fit and for approval. |
|
Q - |
What
if I change my mind after I receive the sketch? |
|
A - |
Your
financial obligation does not begin until after you have approved the sketch
which, initiates the commission. However, if the commission is declined
after receipt of the sketch, there is a nominal $25.00 fee to cover the
artist's time and mailing expense. In all cases, whether approved or not, the
sketch is considered to be the ARTISTIC PROPERTY OF Adnilco Stained Glass
and must be returned. |
|
Q1 - |
OOPS!
I goofed on the measurement. What do I do now? |
|
Q2 - |
OOPS!
I had a slightly different vision in mind. What do I do now? |
|
A - |
It
happens. Assuming it's only a matter of an inch or so, the artist can usually
adjust the design to compensate. |
|
Q - |
I received the sketch. It fits the opening perfectly, it's exactly
what I had in mind. Now what? |
|
A - |
To begin to
cut glass, the sketch (which is actually the template for the piece) must be
returned along with a 1/3 deposit. The deposit is non-refundable. Sign and
date the sketch. Your signature represents the approval of the sketch in all
aspects, and authorization to begin the commission. Return the sketch and your
deposit check, in the same mailing tube using the attached return
mailing label. |
|
Q - |
Can
I pay with a credit card ? |
|
A - |
Yes, indirectly. PayPal® is Adnilco's authorized on-line
payment processor. By clicking on the
Paypal® icon, on our
Pricing page, you will be "walked-thru" the process. |
|
Q - |
What about shipping? Do you ship to Timbuktu? |
|
A - |
We have successfully shipped from NJ to as far as Washington State. Generally speaking, the finished piece is
somewhat robust. However, it is glass after all, and as such may require
additional packing protection. The customer is responsible for shipping cost. Of
course, local commissions are hand delivered. |
|
Q - |
How is it constructed? Is the lead a health hazard? |
|
A - |
Adnilco
Stained Glass panels are constructed using the Tiffany
technique. Lead came is not used at all. The edges of the
cut and ground pieces of glass are individually wrapped with copper foil.
The copper foil seams, which result from abutting the pieces, are then
soldered along their entire length. This technique allows the artist to form
more intricate designs. Note however, that the Tiffany style construction
is not suitable for exposure to outdoor weather elements and should
be confined to interior display. |
|
Q - |
How much does it weigh? |
|
A - |
A
single sheet of glass, 1 foot square, weights about 2 pounds. Solder, foil, framing, etc increases the overall weight
by about another 50%. |
|
Q - |
Will
Adnilco install the stained glass panel? |
|
A - |
No.
Adnilco does not do installations. However, we will offer
suggestions to the customer or a customer's general
contractor. Installation isn't brain surgery! The mounting details are worked
out during the Design Stage so there are no surprises for the customer. |
|
Q - |
How do I mount the panel in the opening? |
|
A - |
It really depends on what you want to do. Panels
can be mounted semi-permanently using
mirror anchors
,
wooden molding or
wire
loops and screws. Panels may also be hung using
chain or cable. Sometimes panels are supported within an opening
with
"L" brackets and
"U" screws. |
